The APRIL 19TH REVOLUTION (1960)

After the Korean War the political regime of Lee Seungman suppressed the democratic, racial, independent party by physical power with the help of a pro-Japanese group in the name of anti-communism. At the time the national economy relied on only U.S.A support for comprador capital by which they got more wealthy.
Young students who couldn't endure this miserable situation rose up during the rigged election of the Liberty Party regime. The national students' demonstration in Daegu on the 28th February, and in Pusan and Masan from March to 18th April escalated to "bloody Tuesday on the 19th of April".
Especially Kim jooyeul who was killed by rear gas gave the initiative for the up rising to spread through out the whole nation.
Demonstrations took place on National Scale and reached its peak in Seoul on 19th April when policeman started using guns after which martial law was proclaimed in Seoul province at 1 o' clock in the afternoon.
In Pusan, a lot of students participated to the demonstration in the morning on 19th day. They were Kyungnam technical high school, Pusan Commercial high school, Daeraesa Girl middle and high school, Dongrae high school student, university students and 2,000 citizen. And they wounded with shooting by police.
Enraged citizen occupied the Pusanjin plice station and destroyed it too.
259 professors of university in Soeul had done peaceful parades with the slogan "Respond the scarified students' blood".
The April set the stage for overthrowing the Lee dictator regime. It was an "uncompleted revolution" though, changed from a Liberty Party to Democratic Party and was denied by 5.16 military coup detat.
