1. The purpose of Pusan Democracy Park

To establish the space learning history and looking back on today's us will be helpful to connect present and future, let us know what to do.

The Pusan Democracy Park was established in honor of and to succeed to the sublime spirit of the citizens of Pusan for democracy, which has played a great part in the development of democracy in Korea through the April 19 Democratic Revolution in 1960, the historic Pusan-Masan Democratic Uprising in 1979 and the June Democratic Uprising in 1987.
By using the Pusan Democracy Park as the educational space of history, encouraging Pusan citizen's conceit, therefore, the democracy park will contribute to raise the historical position of Pusan, the sacred city of democracy.

2. The spirit of the surrounding

The PDP is the space symbolizing democracy which realize human rights and pursuit of happiness of human for present and future ,as well as commemorating the history of the past democratic movement in Pusan.

3. Basic plan

PDP will be the place where commemorates the sublime spirit of Pusan citizen pursuiting improvement of general rights of human, democracy and the quality of life. we will make PDP facilities for citizens to use easily.

As installing the symbolic frame meaning national identity and democratic spirit handed down from the anti-Japanese struggle under the Japanese colonial period to the April 19th revolution(1960), Pusan-Masan protest movement(1979), the June 10th protest movement(1987), we intend to raise the symbol as the Pusan Democracy Park. And we will make PDP the historic place by displaying various kinds of remains, symbolic frame, poem, picture, photo relating to democratic movements.

As we arrange exhibition hall, performance hall, outdoor theater etc , we will make PDP the hall of the culture and academic activities by holding various kinds of exhibitions of illustrated poems, lecture meetings, cultural performances, debates, film festivals, photo exhibitions realizing the spirits of the democratic movements.

By setting up a study room, a reference library, as well as the democratic movements in Pusan area, we intend to study and educate the society of today.

On emphasis of history of the democratic movement, we will give an deep impression foreigner as well as Pusan citizen.

The democracy park located on the top of the mountain is in harmony with the surrounding nature.

5. The process of the PDP establishment

• 95. 8 : The construction of Pusan-Masan Protest Movement Memorial Tower, Memorial Center, Memorial Park was suggested by the non-government organizations including Pusan Democratic Movement Memorial Association.

• 95. 9~12 : Through interviewing the mayor of Pusan metropolitan city, requesting the site for establishing the PDP
  
  
  
• 96. 1~4 : Through inviting the press centers in Pusan for example Pusanilbo/Kookje newspaper/Pusan daily newspaper/KBS/MBC/PSB/BBS etc, agreeing with each other to drive fund-raising campaign
  
• 96. 1~4 : The Pusan Democratic Movement Memorial Association and Pusan municipal authorities agreed to establish the Park jointly and organize the pan-citizen driving committee of PDP The construction site of the PDP was determined in Joong-Ang Park budget : government expense 10 billion / city expense 7 billion / funding 3 billion
